What Is Running Stride and How to Improve It?

When you run, your body moves in a constant rhythm of steps, patterns, and flow. But there’s one key element that can make all the difference between running with effort… and running efficiently: your running stride.

What is running stride?
Simply put, stride is the length of your step—from the moment one foot hits the ground until it touches down again. It’s not just about how long your steps are, but how well they sync with your body and rhythm. An efficient stride helps you move forward with less effort, protects your joints, and boosts your overall performance.

Why does it matter?
A poorly adjusted stride can waste energy, increase injury risk, or hold back your speed. On the other hand, when your stride works with you, everything flows: you run lighter, faster, and with more control.

How can you improve your stride?
Here are a few tips you can start incorporating into your training:

Strengthen your core: A strong core (abs, lower back, and pelvis) helps stabilize your body while running and keeps your stride aligned.

Do technical drills: Skipping, butt kicks, and short strides improve your running form and coordination.

Increase your cadence: Aim for 170–180 steps per minute. More (slightly shorter) steps can reduce impact on your body and enhance your stride without overreaching.

Listen to your body: Every runner has a different stride. Find what feels natural to you, and avoid overextending your legs.

Remember, Bimbo Global Runner:
Running better doesn’t always mean running faster. Run with purpose and energy.
